The album’s star performer is the saxophonist, who is also the author of all the tracks except Love For Sale and Summer. For the occasion, his Coltrane-esque ‘sheets of sound’ are colored with shades curiously close to early Charles Lloyd, giving the songs a pleasant esoteric tinge. But there is no shortage, in a Neptunian Verses that is among the best things on the compact, of reflective moments close to the masterful Wayne Shorter of the Blue Note period.
